Pro Bono Volunteer of the Month-August 2020
James M. Davis of James M. Davis Law Office
James Davis graduated cum laude from the William S. Boyd School of Law. Prior to becoming an attorney, James served in the United States Air Force for 20 years. James was first introduced to volunteering with legal services while he attended law school. He has dedicated his entire legal career (15 years) to Family Law. After his time as a Law Clerk in Family Court, he joined Ishi Kunin’s office, and represented several clients in conjunction with the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada. His support of the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada continued when he opened his own office.
When we asked James why he does pro bono he said “Unfortunately, a lot of people get lost and frustrated with the Court System. Helping these individuals through the process and providing access to justice is incredibly rewarding and provides a positive impact on society. With the COVID pandemic, resources have become scarce and more individuals will be unable to afford to hire an attorney; thus, access delayed/denied. I encourage all of my colleagues to give back to the community by volunteering their services”.
James has generously given his time to help with the Family Law Ask-A-Lawyer program and has directly represented pro bono clients with family law issues. In addition, he has conducted over 100 open forums/workshops and continuing legal education on various topics, such as Domestic Partnership Law, the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), Marriage Equality, Family Creation, and Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.
For his commitment to pro bono, we honor James Davis as our August Volunteer of the Month.
