Volunteer of the Month-March 2018
Kathleen England of Gilbert & England Law Firm
Kathy graduated cum laude from Michigan State University and received her Juris Doctor from Suffolk University in Boston. She moved to Nevada in 1978 and soon after passed the Nevada Bar. She began her law career with the Las Vegas City Attorney and then in variety of private firm settings in Nevada. She is currently the managing resident Nevada attorney of Gilbert & England Law Firm, representing those who have experienced employment discrimination and personal violence in civil cases.
Kathleen’s activities reflect her commitment to her community. From 2009-2010, Kathy served as president of the Nevada Bar. She is active with many bar associations and organizations. She has served on the boards of the Southern Nevada Association of Women Attorneys, the Clark County Bar Association and the Nevada Inns of Court. She also spends many hours educating lay people and lawyers about discrimination laws and rights.
Kathy has been a long-time pro bono volunteer and supporter of the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada. After the Oct 1 Route 91 shooting tragedy, Kathy immediately volunteered her expertise to assist several contractors who had been employed at the venue, in their pursuit to obtain their pay for the work they had done at the concert over the weekend. Kathy was horrified and saddened by the shooting and wanted to find a way to support the victim’s families and survivors (including her former secretary who escaped physical injury. Kathy knew this project was going to be labor intensive, so she decided it would be best to hire a Boyd law graduate as a law clerk, Sara Konzak. Together, they were able to obtain settlements for all of their client’s through the Nevada Labor Commissioner.
For her commitment to representing Route 91 victims and their family, we honor Kathy England as the March Pro Bono Volunteer of the Month.
