Joseph Dagher volunteers his time to multiple programs at the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada, where he's represented consumers and children, giving a voice to the most vulnerable members of our community, earning him our Attorney Volunteer of the Month award for February. He never says no, taking some of our most urgent minor guardianship cases. He has taken on six minor guardianship matters over the last year, some of which were complex and contested.
Joseph reflected on how the positive nature of his firm encouraged him to get his start in legal volunteerism: "Pro bono work is in our DNA at Ballard Spahr – to me, it is a way to give back to the community and make a positive impact on people's lives." When prompted to recall a memorable pro bono case, Mr. Dagher mentioned a particularly contentious minor guardianship matter where a vulnerable young client was subjected to a guardianship petition by an adult relative, to which the child objected. Joseph successfully advocated for his client's legal desires, securing guardianship with the adult caregiver of the child's choosing. Without Mr. Dagher's selfless contribution, this child would have been voiceless in the courtroom, unwittingly forced to be under the guardianship of a relative to whom he did not consent.
Indeed, Joseph's contributions continue to sustain a long legacy of Ballard Spahr's admirable participation in our community outreach programs– including our Ask-A-Lawyer and Children's Attorneys Project. To this end, Joseph stated: "we are so proud of the work we've done with LACSN, and we look forward to continuing to partner with the Legal Aid Center in delivering quality counsel and representation to those who cannot afford a lawyer."
Joseph Dagher received his undergraduate degree and Juris Doctor at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. During his time at law school, he served in the President's Office at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas as a top aide for the University President. Mr. Dagher was a member of the Society of Advocates Moot Court Team, served on the faculty appointments committee, and provided support at the law school's Mediation Clinic. Upon graduating from Boyd Law, Joseph clerked in the Eighth Judicial District Court with Judge Nancy Allf.
At Ballard Spahr, Joseph practices primarily in real estate, land use, zoning, and government relations. In his role, Mr. Dagher confers with a diverse array of clients, including renewable energy developers on various complex legal matters; he states: "I regularly represent landowners and developers in navigating Nevada's political landscape and the entitlement process in various jurisdictions throughout Nevada."
