Case Number: 2022-005271

In Afghan Asylum Project

A meteorologist at the Kabul Airport evacuated Afghanistan and came to the United States on September 3, 2021. He is seeking assistance with an asylum application and a TPS application. He worked for Kabul Airport for over 10 years and reported that, after the Taliban took over Kabul, he feared for his life because the Taliban was kidnapping and skilling all the people who worked for the government. He reported his work friends warned him not to go back to work because the Taliban were already arresting his coworkers. His coworkers were tortured and he believed his life was in great danger if he stayed in Afghanistan, so he had to evacuate. He was forced to leave his wife and 4 minor children in Afghanistan and would like to bring them to the United States to be with him. If he returns to Afghanistan, he believes the Taliban would find him and kill him as revenge for his support and work for the previous government. He has a valid Employment Authorization Document (EAD), which will expire on October 13, 2023. This client is in need of an attorney to assess his case and represent him through the asylum process, submit a TPS application, and anything else the attorney deems appropriate. Applicant speaks Farsi and understands some English, therefore an interpreter is available upon request through the Legal Aid Center’s Volunteer Interpreter Project. Asylum Request Deadline: September 3, 2022.
