This sibling group of four, ages 9, 7, 5, and 4, came into DFS custody on or about October 19, 2021 because of allegations of inadequate supervision of the children and physical abuse. The mother reportedly hit the children with a belt, sandal, or her hand causing marks and bruises and forces the children to eat “black gummies” to fall asleep. In addition, during the 2020-2021 distance learning school year, the children were not logging on regularly for the classes and had over 20 absences. The children were enrolled for this school year 2021-2022 and they were absent or late for classes. When one of the children reported that they were late or absent because “mom was too sick and needed her medicine in her arm.” Mom has a history of drug use and admitted to using drugs in the presence of the children. The children were also present during a domestic violence incident between their mother and father in April 2021. Their father is currently incarcerated at the Las Vegas Detention Center. The children were removed due to physical abuse, risk of harm, educational neglect and concerns with drug and alcohol use by their mom. These children are in need of an attorney to represent their legal wishes and rights as to permanency, placement, visitation, and to ensure appropriate services are in place. Next Hearing(s): Plea Hearing on 01/03/2022 at 1:30 p.m. in Courtroom 10.
