In Abuse/Neglect Cases - Children's Attorneys Project

Recently, a 8-year old little girl came into the custody of Clark County Family Services (CCFS) due to reports of apparent neglect, physical risk and parental unavailability. CCFS was alerted to the situation after the father, the primary caregiver, experienced a severe mental health crisis. During the crisis, the parent displayed deeply erratic and threatening behavior, resulting in him being committed to a psychiatric facility. This mental health episode is consistent with an emerging pattern of mental health issues, which render the father unable to attend to the wellbeing of his children. Additionally, The mother is unhoused, disabled, and lacks the resources to fulfill her child’s needs. This vulnerable little girl was removed along with her two older brothers, who are being represented by separate counsel in the same matter. This child, whose demands and wishes are markedly different from her older siblings, requires an attorney to represent her. The next hearing is on January 14th, 2025 at 11 a.m. in Courtroom 11.
