A 17-year-old girl came into custody of the Department of Family Services due to maternal abandonment. The mother’s extensive history of drug abuse as well as her constant vacillation between incarceration and houselessness renders her unable to substantively care for the child. Disagreement over the subject minor’s behavior has led to her temporary caregiver refusing to continue performing essential duties related to the child’s well-being. Subject minor has a concurrent yet unrelated delinquency case. This child requires an attorney to represent her legal wishes and rights as to permanency, placement, visitation, and to ensure appropriate services are in place. The next hearing is to be determined and will take place in Courtroom 12.
