In Abuse/Neglect Cases - Children's Attorneys Project

A 17-year old boy was removed from parental custody and placed into the care of Clark County Family Services (CCFS) due to allegations of apparent neglect, physical risk, and parental unavailability. The father of this vulnerable child has been committed to a psychiatric facility following a severe mental health crisis. The crisis, which had been preceded by a lengthy history of mental health lapses, alerted CCFS to the emerging situation. It was discovered that both the child’s mother and father lack the financial resources to provide a safe environment capable of sustaining the child’s wellbeing. The financial strain, coupled with concerns about the general safety and cleanliness of the family’s residence, eventually led to the child being removed along with his two siblings who are both present in the same matter under separate counsel. This child, whose demands and wishes are markedly different from his siblings, requires an attorney to represent him. The next hearing is on January 14th, 2025 at 11 a.m. in Courtroom 11.
