In Abuse/Neglect Cases - Children's Attorneys Project

A 7-year old boy was removed by DFS after his father left him in the care of his mother, who previously had her children removed from her and has an open permanency case with the Department regarding her own substance abuse issues, mental instability, and homelessness.  When this boy was removed from his mother, he was placed with the father, as he was the non-offending parent. The parents were involved in a physical altercation and the father left and his whereabouts are unknown, the Department requested a diligent search in effort to locate father.  Minor was taken into protective custody as there was no appropriate caregiver available to care for him and met his basic needs.  The mother has been deemed unsafe given she has not completed her case plan to demonstrate behavioral changes and has not met her conditions for return.  At this time, this minor boy is in need of an attorney to represent his legal wishes and rights as to permanency, placement, visitation, and to ensure appropriate services are in place.  Next Hearing(s): Adjudicatory Trial on 08/24/2023 at 11:00 am in Courtroom 13.
