A newborn baby girl came was removed by DFS due to parental drug use. The mother has a history of drug use involving heroin and methamphetamine.  She tested positive for opiates at the time of the baby’s birth. Mother admitted to smoking heroin daily and using drugs during her pregnancy.  The mother is an relationship and unfortunately, her girlfriend also has a history of drug use involving heroin and methamphetamine.  Minor is identified as being affected by parental substance use and having withdrawal symptoms resulting from prenatal drug exposure. There is also lack of resources, neither parent is able to provide safe and stable housing, income or employment to provide for the basic needs of minor.  At this time, this newborn girl is in need of an attorney to represent her legal wishes and rights as to permanency, placement, visitation and to ensure appropriate services are in place. Next Hearing(s): Review Hearing on 09/26/2023 at 2:15 pm and Permanency Planning Hearing on 03/12/2024 at 2:15 pm in Courtroom 11.
