A 10-year-old, 8-year-old, 7-year-old, and 5-year-old came into DFS care on May 7, 2022 because of their mother’s drug use and abandonment and their father maltreating and abusing them. Their mother’s extensive history of drug use involving methamphetamine and heroin compromises her ability to care for them. She has not had contact with the children and has not provided financial or other support to the children in about 2.5 years. She is homeless with her boyfriend. Their father subjected the children to terrorizing, degrading, painful, and emotionally traumatic behavior and they are afraid to reside in the home with him. On one occasion, he has threatened to kill everyone in the home. As a result, these children are in need of an attorney to represent their legal wishes and rights as to permanency, placement, visitation, and to ensure appropriate services are in place. Next Hearing(s): Status Check (DFS Assessment Regarding Possible Placement) on 12/13/2022 at 10:00 a.m., and Permanency Planning Hearing on 05/22/2023 at 1:30 p.m. pm in Courtroom 10.
