A 9-month-old baby girl came into DFS care in April 2022 because of concerns her mother was mentally unstable and unable to provide adequate care for the child. The maternal grandparents were given temporary custody of the child in November 2021 through a notarized letter signed by the mother, but she got mad and tried to take the baby. She threatened to remove the child from the grandparent’s home and move into her new boyfriend’s home. The baby’s father consents to the baby remaining with the maternal grandparents. The mother struggles with substance abuse and has overdosed twice this year, although she asserts she does not use drugs regularly. She has a history of mental health issues. The child was taken to Child Haven awaiting Foster Care placement. Next Hearing(s): Plea Hearing on 6/7/2022 at 10:00 a.m. in Courtroom 13.
