A 5-year-old and a 1-year-old are in DFS care after a neighbor reported the 1-year-old was unsupervised outside the home multiple times. The first time, the toddler was outside for 10-15 minutes before his older sibling found him out of the house and took him back in. The 1-year-old was out of the house two additional times. In response, the neighbor entered into the home and tried to wake up their mother but it took several attempts before she responded. After the third time, the neighbors called the police. The mother explained to the police that her children were asleep so she took advantage and tried to get rest while they were sleeping. She admitted to smoking marijuana and later admitted to doing illegal drugs on a weekly basis. At this time, the two children are in need of an attorney to represent their wishes and legal rights as to permanency, placement, visitation and to ensure appropriate services are in place. Next Hearing(s): Plea Hearing on 6/2/2022 at 9:45 am in Courtroom 11.
