In Abuse/Neglect Cases - Children's Attorneys Project

A 10-year-old girl, a 9-year-old girl, and a 3-year-old boy, came to into DFS care on 11/9/2021 in response to allegations the mother’s ex-boyfriend sexually molested the 9-year-old in 2018 and her current boyfriend kicks and hits the 3-year-old boy. The 10-year-old fears what the current boyfriend will do to the 3-year-old that she told the investigator she feels she has to stay home from school to ensure her 3-year-old brother is not hurt. She has missed over 35 days of school this year. The mother fails to protect the children from this harm and continuously allows the 10-year-old to miss school and care for her younger siblings. This is the fourth report DFS has received since the family has resided in Nevada. During the course of this investigation of the sexual molestation report, another report of sexual molestation was received. DFS Specialist has made several attempts to contact the mother and, when they were able to contact her, she was vague and gave inaccurate information. Specialist has been able to make contact with several persons that corroborated the allegations. At this time, these three children need of an attorney to represent their wishes and legal rights as to permanency, placement, visitation and to ensure appropriate services are in place. Next Hearing(s):  Disposition Hearing on 6/1/22 at 1:30 pm; Calendar Call at 10:15 am; Adjudicatory Trial on 7/15/2022 at 1:30 pm in Courtroom 11.
