In Afghan Asylum Project

Aisha and her 2-year-old daughter came to the U.S. from Afghanistan on 9/1/2021 to escape the Taliban. She is an attorney and was employed by the government to represent women survivors of domestic violence in Afghanistan. When the Taliban took over, women were prohibited from working in the domestic violence unit and the Taliban forced her to close the unit. Prior to the take over, she was shot at while driving in the car with her husband and they believe the Taliban were behind the incident. She also received many written threats from the Taliban telling her to stop working in the domestic violence unit. She also received threats from the domestic violence perpetrators. She did not report anything to the police because she did not believe anything would be done. Applicant left Afghanistan because she feared she would be killed as a result of her job. Her husband wasn’t able to enter the airport and leave with her and her daughter so he is still in Afghanistan. Both she and her daughter have valid Employment Authorization Documents. This client is in need of an attorney to assess her case and submit an asylum request, TPS applications for her and her daughter, and do anything else the attorney deems appropriate. She is a Dari speaker and a volunteer interpreter is available through the Volunteer Interpreter Project upon request. Asylum Request Deadline: September 1, 2022.
