A 3-year-old with special needs and cerebral palsy came into DFS care with cuts and bruises all over her on or about 3/14/22 after father allegedly caused an explosion in the family home. The explosion occurred while he was manufacturing butane hash/honey oil in the bedroom he shares with his daughter. It was powerful enough to crack the walls of the room. Her father has a significant substance abuse history and was arrested after the explosion. The 3-year-old is currently placed with her paternal grandparents who are reported to have been the primary caregivers for most of her life. Her mother is incarcerated at Florence McClure Women’s Correctional Facility and was there at the time of the incident. Her mother is in regular contact with the grandparents and expresses interest in being part of her life. At this time, this child is in need of an attorney to represent her legal wishes and rights as to permanency, placement, visitation, and to ensure appropriate services are in place. Next Hearing(s): Adjudicatory Trial on 6/20/2022 at 9:30 am in Courtroom 9.
