In Children's Attorneys Project (Abuse/Neglect Cases)

A 7-year-old girl, 5-year-old boy, and 3-year-old boy were removed from their parents in July 2019 after a domestic violence incident in which the parents were arrested. They came into care with their old siblings. These three siblings are placed with their maternal grandmother. The parents have since had another child who is also with them now. The parents have substance abuse issues and there is a history of domestic violence between them. At the review hearing on 1/4/22, DFS asked the Court to change the permanency goal to termination of parental rights (TPR) for these children. The younger siblings have different goals although TPR was requested for them too. The judge granted the request and TPR is now the goal for all children except for the baby. These four children need an attorney to advocate for their desire to represent their wish to be reunified with their parents and legal rights as to permanency, placement, and visitation and to ensure appropriate services are in place. Next Hearing(s): Review Hearing for youngest on 2/1/2022 at 1:30 pm in Courtroom 14; TPR Hearing on 3/15/22 at 9:30 am in Courtroom 14; and Review Hearing for older three on 7/5/2022 at 2:00 pm in Courtroom 14.
