A 3-month-old boy came into DFS care in September 2021 because there was domestic violence between the parents with he and his half sibling present. His mother has history with DFS as she has a current open case for her daughter. The mother appeared to be having a mental breakdown because she was exhibiting unusual behaviors, was out of control, and it seemed the situation may change quickly. She also behaved violently towards others in the presence of the children. As a result, DFS identified present danger and took the child into care. This is a pattern for her as her current permanency case outlines similar concerns for a similar incident resulting in her daughter being removed from her care. Because her daughter is still ward of the State of Nevada at the time of this incident, her permanency worker executed a placement disruption and returned her daughter to the care of her foster placement, but the foster placement was unable to take this additional child. He was taken into protective custody and transported to Child Haven to have his basic needs met. The child’s father is maintaining good contact and has completed Domestic Violence Counseling. This baby boy is in need of an attorney to represent his wishes and legal rights as to permanency, placement, visitation and to ensure appropriate services are in place. Next hearing(s): Review Hearing on 02/22/2022 at 2:00 p.m. in Courtroom 18.
