Case Number: 2021-031932

In Guardianship

The grandmother of a 7-year-old boy has been his guardian since 2014. She was granted guardianship without a hearing as his mother consented to the guardianship and her petition alleged his father was unknown. In 2016, his father filed a petition to terminate alleging he had only just learned that he was the father. The case was sent to mediation and the parties agreed to a reunification schedule for the father and the little boy. In early 2017, his father filed another petition to terminate alleging that he met his obligations under the agreement and that his son was living with him full-time. The Court denied the petition without prejudice and ordered that the agreement from 2016 be enforced. The father recently filed a petition to terminate alleging the boy’s grandmother and mother kidnapped the boy. The grandmother opposed and the case is currently set for non-jury trial.  It appears neither father nor grandmother are represented by counsel. This little boy is in need of an attorney to represent his wishes and rights as a protected person. Next Hearing(s): Non-Jury Trial on January 24, 2022.
