A sibling group consisting of a 4-year-old, 3-year-old, 1-year-old, and 1-month-old came into DFS care on September 27, 2021. After an hour of hearing the children screaming, the neighbors forced their way into the home and found the children naked and alone in the house. The parents were not home and their maternal uncle was barricaded in a bedroom, apparently oblivious to the crying children. There was rotten food, soiled diapers, chemicals, and medication on the floor or within the children’s reach. None of the toilets in the home were working. The 3-year-old is suffering from four rotten teeth and the 1-month-old has a yeast infection. She was taken to the hospital 12 days earlier and the treating doctor prescribed medication, but the infection was worse, indicating the medication was not applied properly, if at all. The parents stated that they had paid the uncle to watch the children. The uncle appeared to have mental health and substance abuse issues. These children are in need of an attorney to represent their legal wishes and rights as to permanency, placement, visitation, and to ensure appropriate services are in place. Next Hearing(s): Disposition Hearing on 11/02/2021 at 1:30 pm in Courtroom 11.
