A sibling group of six children, ranging in age from 3-17 years, came into DFS care on September 23, 2021 in response to a report of inadequate supervision against both their mother and father. Both parents were arrested for being in a stolen vehicle, which they are adamant they did not know was a stolen vehicle but was actually a discrepancy with a rental car company. The children reported to the DFS Specialist that they were staying at a hotel the days prior to going into DFS care. Their father has a history of substance abuse as well as reported violence. The children deny their parents struggle with any substance abuse, domestic violence, or mental health issues. On September 27, 2021, DFS Specialist completed a parent contact with both parents via telephone and they confirmed the family had been staying at a hotel with plans to obtain new temporary shelter at a weekly apartment as of September 28, 2021. The father continued to deny he has used drugs despite testing positive for multiple drugs as recently as August 10, 2021. An out-of-home safety plan was established with the paternal aunt in her home for all of the siblings. At this time, the children are in need of an attorney to represent their wishes and legal rights as to permanency, placement, visitation and to ensure appropriate services are in place. Next hearing(s): Review Hearing on 02/22/2022 at 2:30 pm in Courtroom 12.
