Case Number: 2021-027670 (Urgent)

In Children's Attorneys Project (Abuse/Neglect Cases)

A 17-year-old boy came into DFS care with his three siblings in August 2021 because of allegations of inadequate supervision and abandonment by their guardian/grandmother. The grandmother is diminished in her ability to care for the children due to her own medical needs and she is refusing to engage in services. The family has previous history with the department as well as previous history out of state. Their mother has extensive substance abuse history and lacks the resources to care for the children. None of the fathers have been involved, but a diligent search was requested for the natural fathers. The children will be placed in a foster home.  This teenager is in need of an attorney to represent his wishes and legal rights as to permanency, placement, visitation and to ensure appropriate services, including educational services, are in place. Next hearing(s): Adjudicatory Trial (Mother & Fathers) on 01/13/2022 at 11:00 am; Review Hearing on 02/15/2022 at 2:00 pm in Courtroom 13.
