Case Number: 2021-026263

In Children's Attorneys Project (Abuse/Neglect Cases)

This 14-year-old teenage girl and her siblings were removed in February 2020 due to being neglected by both parents, domestic violence between their dad and his girlfriend, and environmental neglect. Since entering care the placement issues have been ongoing. She was placed in a foster home with her younger siblings but then she was disrupted from the home because of her behaviors and encouraging the boys to runaway with her. She spent a long time on Child Haven’s campus before being placed in St. Jude’s. She was then placed with her younger brothers in a foster home in May 2021 but ran way and has not returned to care yet. It’s suspected that she ran to their dad’s home. All of the kids have special educational, therapeutic, and behavioral needs. There is a Termination of Parental Rights petition against dad and the DA plans to move forward, but she would like to reunify with her dad. Their mother has not been raising the kids and does not maintain contact consistently with them outside of a birthday call. Her rights are pending termination and a prove up was done as she is not participating in the court process. The dad however was at least trying to engage in services recently, but is just not showing true behavioral change. The biggest issue for this teenager and her siblings is that these kids would be legal orphans with no adoptive resource and they are so bonded to dad and have so many issues that would make securing a non-relative resource difficult. This 14-year-old girl is in need of an attorney to represent her wishes and legal rights as to permanency, placement, and visitation and to ensure appropriate services are in place. Next hearing(s): Calendar Call Hearing on 10/27/2021 at 10:30 a.m., Adjudicatory Trial on 11/15/2021 at 11:30 a.m., Motion to Appoint Person Responsible for Psychiatric Care of Child on 11/17/2021 at 11:30 a.m., and Permanency Planning Hearing on 01/18/2022 at 2:30 p.m. in Courtroom 12.
