Case Number: 2021-025668

In Children's Attorneys Project (Abuse/Neglect Cases)

A 12-year-old and a 9-year-old came into DFS care with their two older siblings in August 2021 on allegations of inadequate supervision and abandonment by their guardian/grandmother. Their caregiver has a diminished ability to care for the children due to her own medical needs and she is refusing to engage in services. The family has previous history with the department as well as previous history out of state. Their mother has extensive substance abuse history and lacks the resources to care for the children. None of the fathers have been involved, but a diligent search was requested for the natural fathers. The children are currently staying at Child Haven. These two children are in need of an attorney to represent their wishes and legal rights as to permanency, placement, visitation and to ensure appropriate services, including educational services, are in place. Next hearing(s): Disposition Hearing on 10/12/2021 at 11:00 a.m., and Adjudicatory Trial on 01/13/2022 at 11:00 a.m. in Courtroom 13.
