In Children's Attorneys Project (Abuse/Neglect Cases)

A 9-year-old and an 8-year-old came into DFS care on August 10, 2021 due to concerns of inadequate supervision, physical risk, and environmental neglect. LVMPD responded to a hotel room at Mandalay Bay where the the two were found alone with only their 11-year-old sister and their mother’s whereabouts were unknown. DFS reported to the home of the mother where they found the children’s brother and their father. Their father reported that he was staying with the brother at the home after being informed the mother took the 9-year-old, 8-year-old, and their sister to the Mandalay Bay. The house presented with old food on all counters of the kitchen, on the tables in the home, and in the bedrooms. Their mother was subsequently arrested for an outstanding warrant for battery as well as child abuse and neglect. Their father was subsequently arrested for driving on a suspended license. The father lives in a residence that is not adequate for the children. These two children are in need of an attorney to represent their legal wishes and rights as to permanency, placement, visitation, and to ensure appropriate services are in place. Next hearing(s): Disposition Hearing on 9/28/2021 at 1:30 pm in Courtroom 11.
