Case Number: 2021-019857 (Urgent)

In Children's Attorneys Project (Abuse/Neglect Cases)

A 16-year-old girl came into DFS care on June 7, 2021. Her parents are divorced and her father was allowed to visit her at the home where she lived with her mother and other siblings who were not his children. One of the other female siblings reported that the teenager’s father had, on multiple occasions, touched her under her clothing and reported that she told her sisters and her mother but her mother did not address the issue. Two other sisters confirmed they knew too and also stated that, when they were younger, he did the same thing to them. They or their therapist told their mother about what happened and she initially denied knowing what he did, but later admitted she knew he molested the girls and stated she had “taken care of it.” She did not take any action to protect the girls from contact with the father. This teenage girl is at risk of abuse by her father and her mother has failed to protect her other daughters from him. She is currently living with her uncle. She is in need of an attorney to represent her legal wishes and rights as to permanency, placement, visitation, and to ensure appropriate services are in place to protect her from any harm. Next hearing(s): Disposition Hearing on 10/20/2021 at 1:30 pm and Adjudicatory Trial on 10/21/2021 at 9:30 am in Courtroom 11.
