Case Number: 2021-029726

In Children's Attorneys Project (Abuse/Neglect Cases)

The newborn baby girl came into DFS care in September 2021 and is currently still in the NICU or, if released, staying in the home in which her half-brother is placed. Her 2-year-old half-brother is also in DFS care after law enforcement observed their mother leaving a tunnel and his father running from the tunnel carrying him in 2020 during an investigation of drug sales in the tunnels in the area of I-215 and Jones. Neither parents had any shelter or source of income and no formula or diapers for the child. At the time of this baby girl’s birth, her mother stated she still lived in the tunnels and left the hospital without the baby, stating that she hoped they found a good home for her. The court previously terminated the mother’s parental rights to an older child based on lack of resources and shelter and continued use of drugs. That child was adopted in July of 2019. This newborn baby girl is in need of an attorney to represent his legal wishes and rights as to permanency, placement, visitation, and to ensure appropriate services are in place. Next hearing(s): Review Hearing on 03/22/2022 at 2:15 p.m. in Courtroom 11.
