Client took her vehicle to opposing party’s (OP) auto repair shop for a simple oil change. Approximately two weeks later the vehicle stalled in the middle of traffic and had to be towed to a dealership for additional inspection and repair. The subsequent dealership’s service department informed her that the engine must be replaced. According to them, the cause of the engine failure was the poorly performed oil change, wherein the mechanic failed to adequately attach all of the parts. The cost of the repair exceeds the value of the car, which is approximately $5,200. Client would like to obtain the fair market value of the car.
