10 year old boy and 8 year old girl came into DFS care on February 12, 2020, after mother failed to pick them up from school or make arrangements to have them picked up on February 7, 2020. Mother’s whereabouts were unknown and the children had the school contact their former foster parent to pick them up and they remain in her care. When contacted by DFS Specialist, foster parent stated that she is a friend of the family and that the children have been in her care for the past 3 years since mother’s prior DFS case closed. Foster parent was caring for the children until maternal grandparents asked to keep them for a while. On the morning of February 7, 2020 mother went to the maternal grandparents home to pick up the children to take them to school. Mother hit Gabriel in the mouth for swearing which caused his mouth to bleed, maternal grandfather became upset and hit mother. Grandfather called the police to report the incident, his concern was that mother has an outstanding warrant for possession of a stolen vehicle as well as possible drug use. Mother admitted to using PCP in the past but claims she has not used in years, she is currently homeless and would prefer that the children stay in foster parent’s care. Primary issues in this case are instability, unpredictable behavior and lack of resources. The identity for the minor boy’s father is unknown. The father for minor girl’s whereabouts are unknown at the moment. It is known that both mother and minor girl’s father’s have criminal and prior DFS history on their records. The children are currently placed in foster care. Next hearing is an Adjudicatory Plea Hearing on 4/21/2020 at 9:30 am in Courtroom 14.
