Baby boy came into DFS care on February 7, 2020 after the child was born premature and substance exposed. Both mother and baby boy tested positive for methamphetamine. Mother admitted to smoking 1 gram of “meth” every other day consistently during her pregnancy, with the last use being two days prior to giving birth. Drug use and lack of resources appear to be the primary issues in this case. Both parents had a meeting scheduled with Specialist Fisher at Sunrise Hospital on 1/27/2020 but they left the hospital before meeting was able to take place. Specialist was able to contact mother telephonically, and mother stated she was working with a private adoption attorney in California, and that neither parent wanted to be involved with DFS and the court. The parent’s whereabouts are unknown at this time. All maternal and paternal relatives reside out of state. The minor is currently being placed with foster parents. Next hearing is a Disposition Hearing on 4/9/2020 at 11:00 am in Courtroom 14.
