This is a conflict case for our office. We need a pro bono attorney to represent two siblings, ages 14 years and 7 years, who came into DFS care in April 2019 due to their mother’s emotional instability seriously impairing her ability to care for her children. The mother was presenting bizarre and unpredictable behaviors. The oldest child reports that his mother had pushed him to the ground and was verbally abusive towards him. The Police have responded to the mother’s home eight times for her bizarre behaviors. The mother is not taking her prescribed medications for her mental health condition. She has been evicted from her home and lost employment due to her inability to control her actions. Contact with the oldest child’s father has not been established. The children have been placed with the youngest child’s natural father. The children have an older brother who is not a part of this case and visitation between the siblings has already been established. The children are in need of an attorney to represent their legal wishes and rights as to permanency, placement, visitation, and to ensure appropriate services are in place. There is an Adjudicatory Plea Hearing set for May 15, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. in Courtroom 22.
