10 year old girl and her 3 year old brother lived with their paternal grandmother due to ongoing substance abuse by their mother. CPS became involved when neighbors noticed the 3 year old running across the street to a woman, who turned out to be his biological mother. Rather than returning him home, she just “shooshed” him away, sending him back across the street. The baby then resumed pursuing his mother, darting again across the street. This continued until law enforcement arrived. Law enforcement found paternal grandmother and father in a home nearby, with the grandmother asleep. The home is in bad condition. Grandmother claims her prescription medication makes her sleepy, but she is not taking anything sedating. Grandmother also reports that the father was supposed to be watching the baby. The mother comes and goes, despite still using drugs. Paternal uncle is also in the home, and the minors are fearful of him. These children need an attorney to advocate for their wishes and legal rights as to placement, permanency, visitation, and to ensure appropriate services are in place. There is an Adjudicatory Plea Hearing set for March 25, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. in Courtroom 23.
