Two year old little girl and her eight month old baby brother were removed over concerns of homelessness and meth use by their father. The Department also has concerns over the parents’ failure to obtain follow-up treatment for injuries that the little girl sustained after being bitten by a dog – she was supposed to return to have a doctor remove stitches, but a family member pulled them out at home. The current whereabouts of the mother are unknown. DFS identified family members for potential placement but DFS has not been able to finalize placement. When the little girl was examined by a DFS nurse, the nurse observed an injury that may be indicative of physical abuse, so DFS is further exploring whether to include physical abuse within this case. These children are in need of an attorney to represent their wishes and legal rights as to permanency, placement, visitation, and to ensure appropriate services are in place. There is a Status Check on April 16, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. and an Adjudicatory Hearing set for May 10, 2019 at 10:00 a.m., Both in Courtroom 22.
