A newborn baby boy came into DFS care in August 2019 when was he was exposed in utero to multiple substances, resulting in a longer hospital stay after delivery. At the time of the pregnancy, the client’s mother was receiving methadone through a clinic, but still used methamphetamine and heroin. She has never had any formal treatment other than methadone for substance use. Client’s father is refusing to engage with DFS, but the mother appears to be motivated. Client needs a lawyer to make sure he is placed with family upon discharge from the hospital, to have meaningful contact with his parents if safe to do so, and to move swiftly toward permanency. Next Hearing date is 2/5/2020 at 10am for Review in CR 23.
