A 1 month old girl came into DFS care in December 2018 when she was born substance exposed. Her mother tested positive for Methadone and Amphetamines. The mother has a history of substance abuse and has had her rights to her 5 other children terminated. The father also has extensive history of substance abuse and a criminal history. He was given, but failed to take, a toxicology test. The child was scheduled to be released from the hospital, however, began exhibiting withdrawal symptoms. Placement with relatives had been explored, but due to extenuating circumstances, they were not placement options. An attorney is needed to represent the child’s legal rights and wishes regarding permanency, placement, visitation, and to ensure the appropriate services are in place. There is a Review Hearing set for June 4, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. in Courtroom 22.
