Nine year old child was placed into protective custody, along with her 16 year old half-sister, after DFS became concerned that her mother was not sufficiently protective. This child’s father was arrested a few months ago for a dramatic domestic violence incident: after drinking to excess, he fired a number of rounds into the ceiling of the home, traumatizing the older child. When he was approached by the mother, he hit her with a broken beer bottle, causing multiple lacerations to her face. Law enforcement responded to the home, and a two hour stand-off ensued. The father’s criminal matter is resolved, and he’s engaged in multiple services. He participates in Veterans’ court, is working with a therapist, and is on a SCRAM monitor for alcohol use. The child has not expressed fear, and would like to be home with her family. This child has been returned home to the mother. An attorney is needed to represent her legal rights and wishes regarding permanency, placement, and visitation, as well as to ensure appropriate services are in place. There is a Motion Hearing set for March 28, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. in Courtroom 23.
