A one month old baby girl was placed into foster care by DFS over concerns of the mother’s unaddressed mental health needs and possible domestic violence between the mother and the father. At the time the baby was born, nurses contacted DFS as mother has bipolar disorder and schizophrenia and was not on medication. They reported she would stare off, not follow conversations, and not immediately address the baby’s needs. DFS followed the family in the home, but mother’s mental health remained improperly controlled. Father returned to work, leaving the mother to care for the baby alone. DFS placed the baby into care to ensure the safety of the baby. An attorney is needed to represent the child’s legal rights and wishes regarding permanency, placement, and visitation and to ensure the appropriate services are in place. There is an Adjudicatory Plea and Disposition Hearing set for March 4, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. in Courtroom 23.
