This newborn baby was born at home in a bathtub. Paramedics found her unresponsive but were able to get her to start crying.  The mother admitted to using meth the day before she gave birth.  The mother tested positive for methamphetamine and opiates; The baby only tested positive for opiates.  After several days in the hospital, the baby is no longer showing signs of withdrawal and recovering from her traumatic birth quite well.  Her mother was briefly interviewed in the hospital, but DFS cannot locate her now that she’s been discharged.  This baby is currently placed in a foster home.  This child is in need of an attorney to advocate for her legal rights and wishes as to permanency, placement, visitation, and to ensure appropriate services are in place.  There is Drug Court set for February 19, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. in Courtroom 23.
