Two children, ages 7 years and 6 years, came into DFS care on December 14, 2018 after investigations into allegations of environmental neglect after a maggot was discovered in one of the children’s backpacks. The family home was found to be in utter disarray. Both children are reported to be autistic. Mother appears unable to handle both children by herself. Father resides in Hawaii and has asked the department to provide help getting the children to him in Hawaii. At this time the children are in need of an attorney to represent their wishes and legal rights as to permanency, placement, visitation and to ensure appropriate services are in place. There is a Disposition Hearing set for January 31, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in Courtroom 14.
