A 13 year old child was removed from his mother’s care after she got into an altercation with security at an apartment complex. Security saw the mother and an adult male enter a vacant apartment; when they tried to escort her out, she became combative and grabbed at an officer’s taser. Law enforcement arrested the mother for possession of meth. Her car, which was nearby, was actually a stolen vehicle. The child was in the car with nowhere to go when his mother was arrested. This child has family in California. Since the incident, the mother has been released from jail, but she refuses to engage with DFS. This child is in need of an attorney to represent his wishes and legal rights as to permanency, placement, visitation, and to ensure appropriate services are in place. There is an Adjudicatory Plea Hearing set for January 8, 2019 at 9:45 a.m. in Courtroom 14.
