Three children, A two year old and twin one year olds, were taken into care after mother was found under the influence. Mother was staying with children at a shelter at the time. She left the kids in the care of another resident; she was only to be gone for a few minutes. After an hour passed, the resident tried to reach the mother by phone. When the mother picked up, she was panicked and reported that the car, which she had borrowed from that resident was on fire (turns out the mother drove the van into a mobile home, causing the van to catch on fire, and the mother fled the scene). DFS tried to put a safety plan in place, but most of the participants could not pass background checks. Others were reluctant to participate again as this family has had six investigations since May 2018. These children are in need of an attorney to represent their wishes and legal rights as to permanency, placement, visitation and to ensure appropriate services are in place. There is a Disposition Hearing set for January 16, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in Courtroom 23.
