Two siblings, ages 7 years and 8 years, came into DFS care in November 2018, when they were left at school on a holiday with no parent or guardian to pick them up. CPS took the children to the Boys & Girls Club and subsequently to Child Haven as CPS was not able to establish contact with their mother. The children’s mother later met with DFS and admitted to cocaine use as she works as a dancer and sometimes needs additional energy. She further indicated that she thinks her boyfriend uses cocaine as well. The mother has prior history involving domestic violence and has established a pattern of behaviors where her children are left in situations where there is not a care provider present to meet their needs. The children have been placed together in a foster home. An attorney is needed to represent the children’s wishes and legal rights regarding permanency, placement, visitation, and to ensure the appropriate services are in place. There is an Adjudicatory Plea Hearing set for January 23, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. in Courtroom 22.
